Are You Ready for a New Year?
As we step into this new year, I’ve been thinking about something that has become a meaningful tradition for me: choosing a word for the year. It’s like choosing a pillar of inspiration —something to anchor your goals, dreams, and daily choices.
This year, I’m weighing three incredible options: excellence, nourishment, and renewal. Each one is bursting with potential, and I thought it would be fun to share how I’m exploring their meanings—and how you can find your own guiding word, too.
So grab a cozy drink, find a comfy spot, and let’s dive into some creative and reflective ways to choose your word for the year!
Choosing a word for the year is like picking your co-star for the next 365 days. It’s the perfect partner—steady, inspiring, and there for you through every twist and turn. Imagine your word as a compass that points you to your best self.
To find it, start by asking the Lord: what do I really need this year? Jot down three that come to mind.
Now, let’s add a sprinkle of creativity! Grab some magazines or your favorite markers and make a mini vision board for each word.
Or, if journaling is your jam, spill your thoughts onto the page. What does excellence look like in your daily life? Does nourishment bring to mind warm cups of tea and soul-soothing moments? And how about renewal? Can you feel the glow of new beginnings just thinking about it? Play around and see what makes your heart dance.
When you’re ready, pray about it, and see where the Holy Spirit leads. Say each word out loud. Try it on for size. Which one makes you smile or gives you that "yes, this is it!" feeling? That’s the one!
This year, I’ve chosen the word nourishment to guide me through the next 365 days.
For me, nourishment means cooking healthy meals that fuel my body, moving every day in ways that bring joy and strength, and diving into books that nourish my mind and soul.
It’s about laughing, spending time with loved ones, and caring for myself so that I can care for others.
Most importantly, nourishment means tending to my soul. I’m making it a priority to spend time in God’s Word and invite Him into the everyday moments of life—whether it’s sipping a cup of tea or coaching YOU! (Spoiler alert: He always shows up!)
This year, I’m embracing the truth that when we nourish ourselves spiritually, it overflows into every other part of life.
If you’re choosing your own word for the year, my advice is to reflect on what you need most in this season.
Whatever it may be, let it guide you with purpose and joy.
Here’s to a year of meaningful growth, together!
