Does The Past Hold You Captive?
Letting go of the past is easier said than done, isn’t it? Whether it’s lingering hurt, regrets, or even cherished memories, the past can hold us captive, keeping us from fully embracing what God has in store for us.
Yet, the Bible reminds us to press forward: “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” (Isaiah 43:18-19).
God is always at work in our lives, bringing renewal and opening doors to fresh opportunities.
But to step through those doors, we must be willing to release what’s behind us.
The process of letting go begins with surrender. Give your past to God—your failures, disappointments, and even your successes. Trust that He can redeem every part of your story for His glory and your good.
As I was trying to grieve our babies that died in untero, I WANTED to move forward, but felt that it would be minimize the importance of these precious lives.
Instead, spending time grieving them opened my mind and heart to honoring their lives more. I now have brain space to do different activities, and leading a more fulfilling life honors their little lives.
Paul encourages us in Philippians 3:13-14: “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
This isn’t about erasing the past but choosing to focus on God’s promises and the hope of what lies ahead.
You don’t have to navigate this process alone. Letting go and moving forward is a journey, and support can make all the difference.
